The Miami Heat are still holding onto an open roster spot as the offseason winds down, and while fans are hoping for a big splash, the smarter move might be a low-risk, high-reward signing that shores up a key area of need.

Enter Chris Boucher.

Yes, he’s still a free agent. And yes he might be exactly what the Heat are looking for to fill out their rotation.

Efficient Production in Limited Minutes

Last season with the Toronto Raptors, Chris Boucher averaged 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in just 17 minutes per game. That’s remarkable per-minute production for a player coming off the bench.

He also shot nearly 50% from the field and over 36% from three, making him one of the few stretch bigs on the market who can provide efficient offense without dominating the ball. For a Heat team that struggled with bench consistency last year, Boucher could provide an instant scoring and rebounding punch.

The Heat’s Need for a Backup Big

Let’s be honest, the backup big spot has been a revolving door for Miami. We’ve seen Cody Zeller, Dewayne Dedmon, Thomas Bryant, and Orlando Robinson all get a shot. None of them stuck.

With Bam Adebayo anchoring the starting unit and rookie Kel’el Ware expected to get some run, the Heat still lack a reliable veteran presence in the frontcourt. Boucher checks that box.

He’s 6’9” with a 7’4” wingspan, gives you switchability on defense, rim protection, and can even space the floor. He fits perfectly in Miami’s system, especially as a bench big who can play alongside shooters or serve as a small-ball five in Spoelstra’s hybrid lineups.

He Fits the Culture

Boucher isn’t a star, but he brings the kind of effort and versatility the Heat value. He crashes the glass, hustles in transition, and defends multiple positions. He’s scrappy, plays with intensity, and doesn’t shy away from physicality, a perfect match for Heat Culture.

He also brings championship experience, having won a ring with the Raptors in 2019. At 32 years old, Boucher knows his role and isn’t looking to take over he just wants to contribute and compete.

He Won’t Break the Bank

The best part? Boucher likely wouldn’t cost much. A one-year veteran minimum or small two-year deal should be enough to get it done. For a Heat team trying to stay flexible while remaining competitive, that’s a move that makes a ton of sense.

Rather than using that final roster spot on a low-upside project or leaving it open, signing Boucher would give Erik Spoelstra a proven veteran who can help from Day 1.

Final Thoughts

The Heat don’t need another superstar, they need smart, strategic additions that fit their system and fill real needs.

Chris Boucher is that kind of player.

He gives Miami depth, shooting, length, rebounding, and effort, all in one efficient package. And with the team looking to make another playoff run, signing Boucher could be the sneaky move that helps them get there.

Pat Riley, make the call.
